Black Sesame Seeds
Kala Til
Grown in the semi-arid black-cotton soils of Gujarat and Rajasthan, these unhulled black sesame seeds carry a deep, almost smoky nuttiness and a satisfying crunch. Naturally oil-rich, they toast to a fragrant intensity that white sesame cannot match. Use them in tahini and dressings, scatter over rice and noodles, fold into bakes, or grind into the black-sesame paste behind lattes and desserts.

Questions
- Is kala til the same as black sesame seed?
- Yes. Kala til is the Indian name for black sesame seed (Sesamum indicum). The dark colour is natural to the variety and brings a deeper, more roasted flavour than the pale white seed.
- Should I toast black sesame before using it?
- Light dry toasting deepens the nutty aroma and is ideal for garnishes and pastes, but the seeds can also be used raw in bakes and ground straight into tahini.
- Are these seeds hulled or unhulled?
- These are unhulled black sesame, which keeps the seed coat intact for fuller crunch, colour and the characteristic smoky depth.
